At Saturday Night's Main Event, Seth Rollins squared off with LA Knight in a match that ended abruptly when the current Money in the Bank briefcase holder seemingly injured his knee.
Rollins has a history of knee issues, and while the injury was initially reported as legitimate, there have since been claims that it could be a work (perhaps setting the stage for a surprise cash in at SummerSlam next month).
Dave Meltzer has said that most people in WWE are insisting that the injury is the real deal, but revealed that John Pollock claims to have learned of plans for an injury angle two days before Saturday Night's Main Event took place.
Meltzer explained, "Levesque said that he’s getting examined in Birmingham tomorrow, and John Pollock was on his show and said that wait laid out the whole scenario that he had been told a couple days earlier, I think was on Thursday, that they were going to do this angle, and it was exactly what he was told."
"Everyone is insisting that you know, that it was legit that he’s injured," he continued. "It was knee injury. I tried to get a confirmation from someone if John Pollock was mistaken, and they would not say that. So I can say that much."
Bryan Alvarez would later share some insights from his sources, suggesting that Rollins might have already been dealing with an injury, and that the truncated match was WWE's way to allow the Visionary to go away and deal with a pre-existing issue.
"The reason these stories are conflicting is because he is hurt. But what happened on Saturday was a storyline, meaning he is hurt, but he did not get hurt on that spot," Alzarez posited. "That spot was a cover for an injury that he has, which he will have worked on."
He added, "The idea that it was suggested was he will be out of action for a little while, but they’re gonna say, like, nine months, or whatever, full they’ll give this whole thing, but he will be back much sooner than that."
Meltzer admitted that Alvarez's take "makes the most sense," as he had been informed that Rollins' Money in the Bank cash-in was planned to "come out of nowhere." That fits an eventual surprise return, which we'd bet on happening when CM Punk wins the title.
Tonight's RAW is bound to bring another update on Rollins, so be sure to check back here then for the latest on his in-ring status.
