You've likely seen the online chatter surrounding Stephanie Vaquer's possible injury. Before Naomi announced her pregnancy and relinquished the Women's World Championship, the plan had been for her to challenge for the title in Clash in Paris.
The title has since fallen into limbo. However, we recently learned that IYO SKY and Vaquer will battle to determine the new Women's World Champion at Wrestlepalooza later this month.
In a new interview, the Chilean professional wrestler debunked Dave Meltzer's recent claims that she's dealing with a minor injury issue (no great surprise, when she showed up on NXT this week alongside Tiffany Stratton and Rhea Ripley).
"No, I [see] social media sometimes, many things like, not real," Vaquer said. "No injuries. I’m ready. I’m ready for RAW for next Monday. So no, no injuries."
"I need to be honest. This is so difficult for me right now. I know my English is not good, perfect yet," she continued. "I think [I’ve been here] for 10 months, my English maybe is not so bad, and I really want to learn more. So I try to be brave. And if an interview is in English or in Spanish, I say 'Yeah, let’s do it.'"
"Every day I force myself, every day I try to understand. I try to speak pronunciation for me because I’m Chilean, yeah, so that’s the Chilean Spanish is so bad. My pronunciation in Spanish is bad," Vaquer added, revealing that she's been working on her English during the weeks we've not seen her on television. "English is more difficult for me, but I think now I learn a lot, and every day is not just sometimes, not because I have class one time in the week — English class, but I try to learn every day."
With Vaquer clearly making English a priority, it's safe to assume that WWE has big plans for her moving forward (and that's going to require her being able to deliver convincing promos). The expectation is she'll win the title at Wrestlepalooza, cementing the fan-favourite former NXT Women's Champion as a top star on the main roster.
She later shared some love for Booker T, and how he helped get her signature Devil's Kiss over with fans. "I love Booker T, he made my move. And he did really good. No, it’s amazing people now, like, when I go for NXT, people’s like, ah, oh, Booker. And now I’m happy. I really love Booker T, I missed Booker T."
