The Three faces of Charles Wright.
We were so close to seeing the return of The Godfather. And Kama. And Papa Shango. Confused? Well this would be reminiscent of the three faces of Foley at the 1998 Royal Rumble where Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love entered the same rumble. Unfortunately, none of the faces of Foley could get the job done.
However, Godfather’s return wasn’t scheduled for the rumble. This was actually planned for the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Due to COVID, the match was scrapped, and apparently, so was an in-ring return from the WWE Hall of Famer.
"When COVID hit, I agreed to come out to that [Andrè The Giant Memorial Battle Royal] and that was going to be — I was going to come out as Kama, get eliminated, then I was gonna come back as Godfather, get eliminated, and then I was gonna ... I don't even remember what, I know that the last thing was Papa Shango and the lights were gonna go out and everybody, whoever was left, [laughs in character], and COVID hit and they didn't do it," Godfather revealed on his Poddin’ Ain’t Easy podcast.
Since then, the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal has been bumped from WrestleMania to the go-home Smackdown show. Now it's possible that plans could change and The Godfather pulls this stunt at the Royal Rumble. But since this was under Vince’s run, Triple H likely doesn't have any plans for such an elaborate return. Nevertheless, The Godfather is under a legends deal, so it wouldn’t be difficult for WWE to put something together for the Hall of Famer. Should Triple H call him up, The Godfather would be willing to take the call.
"It was hard because they're so PG and, when they see me, the audience wants to yell, 'Where's the Hoes?'" Godfather said. "You might see me down at ... once they go on Netflix I wouldn't be [surprised]. I mean, I'm still under contract. I'm still under contract with them so I'm sure you might see me pop up."
Triple H has never been fond of bringing back the past for the modern era. Granted, he’s brought back former names so it’s not impossible, but the COO tends to focus on the present more. But that isn’t to say that Triple H isn’t willing to give audiences a blast from the past. He did it with Saturday Night’s Main Event, so anything’s possible.
