The Undertaker Only Found Out About His Surprise WRESTLEMANIA Return On The Day It Happened

WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker reveals that he only found out what he'd be doing at WrestleMania during the night the Show of Shows was taking place and explains how his clash with The Rock came to be.

During the WrestleMania 40 main event, Cody Rhodes got some help taking down The Bloodline from Jey Uso, John Cena, Seth Rollins, and The Undertaker. The latter showed up to confront The Rock, hitting the Final Boss with a devastating Chokeslam.

Talking on the latest edition of his podcast, the Deadman explained how his surprise WrestleMania return came to be and it sounds like it was pretty last-minute.

"It happened pretty spontaneously," he explained. "We got to Philadelphia on Wednesday. I got a call on Tuesday from Triple H. 'Hey, a lot of things are going on and a lot of thoughts are being put into this. Would you want to be part of it?' 'If it works and if I can be a help, I don’t know how, but if I can help, fine, whatever you guys need. Just let me know.' 'We don’t have anything yet, we’re just putting ideas together.'"

"I don’t hear anything else until Thursday. I get a text from Michael Hayes. 'We’re coming up with some ideas.' 'Cool, let me know.’'That was it. I’m at the One Deadman Show.”

"I get a text from Paul Heyman. ‘Interesting,'" The Undertaker continued. "I told Paul originally, 'This isn’t about me. If the guys want me involved in it, whatever I can do, let me know. If they don’t, it ain’t going to hurt my feelings. I’m good. Don’t feel like there is any pressure.' It had gone back and forth. I get a text during Sunday, and that’s when you see me get up. At that point, I knew there was a good chance."

According to the Phenom, the text telling him he would be needed came a quarterway through the show on Sunday night. We recently learned that WWE originally wanted Stone Cold Steve Austin in this spot, only for that to fall apart when the two sides were unable to agree on money.

While that would have been very cool to see, The Undertaker's return was still an awesome moment and one which saw fans delight in the fact The Rock got his comeuppance at the hands of an old enemy.

Ahead of WrestleMania 40, the Deadman had been on hand to induct Muhammad Ali into the WWE Hall of Fame. He has no plans to make an in-ring return, but this clash with The Rock proves he can still come in and steal the show when the moment calls for it.
