This Is Why WWE Advertised John Cena For A ROYAL RUMBLE Match He Won't Be Competing In

It's no secret that WWE has been struggling to fill Chase Field for the Royal Rumble PPV and WWE seemingly advertised two big things that were reportedly never going to happen. We're obviously talking about John Cena competing in the Royal Rumble match and Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman.

Well, as you might have guessed, it all boils down to the company making one final push to sell tickets!

"The story going around is that Cena was never to be in the Rumble in the first place, but with a stadium to fill, they advertised Cena, similar to advertising Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman, another match never actually planned, to help sell tickets," Dave Meltzer recently explained. He noted that it's still possible Cena could make an appearance but it's doubtful.

Meltzer added that the PPV is expected to have around 25,000 to 30,000 fans in attendance despite the stadium being configured to fit around 43,000. How they'll hide that remains to be seen.
