Former WCW Boss Eric Bischoff Explains Why He Has No Interest In Working In Professional Wrestling Again

Former WCW boss Eric Bischoff explains why he's done with the professional wrestling business and confirms he wouldn't consider taking on a position in Vince McMahon's rumoured new company. Check it out!

Eric Bischoff was calling the shots at WCW both at the company's best and worst, but no one can take away the fact he managed to beat WWE during the Monday Night Wars for 83 weeks.

These days, the WWE Hall of Famer is in the podcast game and frequently shares his take on the state of professional wrestling today. That includes AEW, a company he's criticised on a regular basis, usually because of Tony Khan's head-scratching booking decisions. However, he's also not shy about taking aim at WWE when he feels it's deserved.

A few years ago, Vince McMahon enlisted Bischoff to serve as SmackDown's "Executive Director." It was all lip service, though, as the former WWE Chairman continued calling the shots and gave little real control to either Bischoff or RAW Executive Director, Paul Heyman.

Unsurprisingly, Bischoff didn't last long in the position and hasn't taken on a backstage role in a pro wrestling company since. And, based on these remarks, he won't do so ever again.

"I realize now that there is nothing I could do in professional wrestling that’s ever going to bring me fulfillment," he explained. "It’s just not because I’ve done it, and I’m proud of what I’ve done. Unless I can do something that could make me feel as excited as I felt back then about professional wrestling, I can’t do it. I just don’t have that desire to focus on that business any longer for Vince or anybody else."

"If I took a job like that, I would be taking it for the wrong reasons and would probably end up having the same results that I did in 2019," Bischoff continued. "I’m just not that interested to commit that much to that industry."

While he remains grateful for the time he spent in the professional wrestling business, Bischoff reiterated that he's done working behind the scenes. "As much as I respect it and am grateful for it, that period of my life is in the rear view mirror and I enjoy every time I look in the rear view mirror and see it," he added.

That part of Bischoff's career might be behind him but he's certainly not turned his back on wrestling as a whole. When he's not busy sharing his thoughts on the business in his podcast, he can frequently be found taking aim at Dave Meltzer on social media!

He also shows up for the odd cameo here and there on WWE programming, so fingers crossed we see more of him on TV in the not-too-distant future.
