Could Tiffy Time close in on a historic reign?
We’ll have to wait and see on Friday as Tiffany Stratton will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against her Summerslam opponent, Jade Cargill. But so far, Tiffany has overcome the odds and successfully retained her belt for the past 245 days. That’s certainly impressive, though that doesn’t hold a candle to the current record setter, Biana Belair. The “EST of WWE” currently holds the honor of longest women’s title reign of the current era at 419 days.
While it would certainly be nice if Ms . Stratton surpassed such a lengthy run, she's simply taking it one day at a time.
“I’m just trying to take every day and be in the moment and not think too much about the future. I’m somebody who overthinks everything and thinks of the worst scenarios possible. So I’m just trying to focus on being in the moment and enjoying my title reign and hopefully holding it for the next year. Or so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll be the longest WWE Women’s Champion ever. So I’d like to make that a goal of mine. Actually, I’m declaring it right now. I want to be the longest WWE Women’s Champion ever.”
That’s certainly a bold statement, though it would be surprising if none of the champions in WWE didn’t have that same goal. Nevertheless, Tiffany has successfully defended her belt seven times. Maybe eight will be after Friday Night Smackdown.
Stratton also talks about how much easier it is to be a heel. She noted the many times you can stumble as a bad guy (or in her case, bad girl), but the crowd can turn on you instantly as a babyface.
“I think being a heel is 10 times easier than being a baby,” she said. “You can mess up and you can fall on your butt and, you know, like, that’s totally fine as a heel. However, as a baby face, if you do that, the crowd could turn on you, or you could get booed, and, you know, you’re supposed to be like the face of the company.”
She highlights how she’s still learning the business from a babyface perspective. The WWE Women’s Champion notes that she was a heel right out of the gate, which is likely the main reason it came so easy for her.
“I feel like I was a heel right off the bat. So that’s why it comes so easy to me,” she continued. “And you know, I’m still learning to like be a babyface and be likable and not have so much stink on what I say in my promos.”
