Chelsea Green has recaptured the WWE Women's United States Championship, defeating Giulia to regain the title on the November 7, 2025 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let's break it all down!
How We Got Here:
This year, WWE has largely been ignoring the Women's United States Championship. Green started out as the inaugural champion, having won it in 2024 at Saturday Night's Main Event and mostly only feuding with Michin. Eventually, Zelina Vega won the title from her on the April 25th episode of SmackDown.
Unfortunately, WWE didn't bother giving Vega a proper title reign, as she only defended the title one more time in a rematch against Green a month later, before waiting another month to drop the belt to Giulia.
Sadly, Giulia also was put on the back burner, having a grand total of two title defenses since then—one in a rematch against Zelina Vega two months after winning the title, and a month after that, in a match against Michin.
Completing the circle and proving that WWE has some albatross around their creative decisions where they can't think of anything else to do, Chelsea Green took it up to Nick Aldis several times that she wanted a match against Giulia for the title so she could prove she was a better champion, eventually getting that match after a backstage segment last week.
Match Details:
During this match, both heels had their friends ringside in their corners to help them out. Kiana James eventually got physically involved by hitting Green, which sparked Alba Fyre of The Secret Hervice to kick into gear and go after James.
That was a distraction that ultimately cost The Beautiful Madness her focus, which Green was able to capitalize on with a roll-up. As she went for the pinfall, the referee was out of eyesight and didn't realize Green was also putting her feet on the ropes to give herself some leverage—another illegal maneuver, but one that can be effective for some added boost of a pinfall.
That was enough to do the job, and after stealing the victory, Green ran out of the ring and away from ringside, celebrating with both Alba Fyre and Ethan Page, who Green currently holds the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship titles alongside.
Green and Page will defend those titles at NXT Gold Rush against Joe Hendry and Thea Hail, and at least for the time being is a double champion.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
It's an absolute mess how WWE has booked this title this year, and I'm not going to defend that in any way whatsoever, even when talking about how talented the women themselves are. They've all deserved better. Zelina shouldn't have been such a paper transitional champion, nor should Giulia have been given a belt and then tossed aside. If the problem was that Giulia doesn't speak English super well still, and they gave her a manager in Kiana James, why was that not enough to be able to book some matches? How often are matches given such thin non-existent storylines to begin with?
Clearly, WWE just struggled to find the creative juices to work around Giulia, and have given up and defaulted back to Green. That's not a bad thing in the sense that Green is a downgrade, as that's not at all true. Green is awesome, and it's great to see her as champion again. But it's a shame they've obviously hit the reset button more out of a lack of enthusiasm for Giulia (and Vega before her, and how Michin is just the resident jobber of that belt's division), rather than out of actually having something going on with Green.
My guess is we'll see Green eventually feud with Tiffany Stratton, who will be the next champion sometime around WrestleMania.
