WWE is currently on a hot streak, whereas AEW is struggling to maintain an audience which appears to be growing increasingly disinterested in the product.
The good news for professional wrestlers is that WWE is keen to sign top stars and AEW's Tony Khan still has plenty of money to throw around.
Now, one WWE Superstar's future is being hotly debated after Fightful Select broke the news that Becky Lynch has only three weeks left on her current contract...and she reportedly still hasn't signed a new one.
The current Women's World Champion is scheduled to defend the title against Liv Morgan at King and Queen of the Ring, an event which takes place just days before her deal expires. Following the release of her book, there's been speculation that "The Man" might retire, so who knows how this one will play out.
If Lynch does plan to continue wrestling, we'd expect WWE to be in the midst of coming up with a lucrative new contract for her (in recent weeks, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Drew McIntyre have all signed deals).
On the AEW side, Bryan Danielson has told Casual Conversations that his contract with the company also ends this summer. "The big one is Wembley. I want to make it to Wembley," he explained. "My contract actually expires before. But I want to make it to Wembley."
He couldn't wrestle at last year's All In due to injury, so this goal makes sense for the American Dragon. However, before getting too excited about the possibility of him returning to WWE, Danielson let fans know where he plans to end his full-time wrestling career.
"I'm not sure if I'll make it. But one thing that'd be a nice way to close everything out for me is to do my last match as a full-time wrestler at WrestleDream at the Tacoma Dome," he said of the October event. "Because that's the first wrestling show I ever saw [at the Tacoma Dome]. It was WWF and it was Ultimate Warrior versus Rick Rude."
Danielson has been working behind the scenes in AEW. However, that's led to him getting caught up in a lot of drama, particularly since he's been publicly outed as a member of the company's disciplinary committee.
A return to WWE on a part-time schedule surely can't be off the cards, particularly with Triple H calling the shots and plenty of fresh new faces for him to face before he hands his wrestling boots up for good.
Stay tuned for updates.
