During Monday's RAW, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins was betrayed by Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman. However, there might be more to the angle than meets the eye.
According to Dave Meltzer, the attack was meant to write Rollins off television due to a legitimate shoulder injury, which he suffered during his match with Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel on Saturday.
He notes, "They were told it was from an injury in the match with Cody Rhodes. But after being told his other injury was legit, many are not fully believing anything right now." The "other injury" he's referring to is Rollins' absence from TV this summer ahead of his surprise Money in the Bank cash-in at SummerSlam. The whole thing was a work, as we're sure you'll recall.
As a result of that "attempt to work everyone," it's said the "lack of trust right now is pretty high."
Are Breakker, Reed, and Heyman meant to be the babyfaces now, or was this an official turn for Rollins? If so, what does that mean for CM Punk's quest to get his hands on the World Heavyweight Champion?
Those questions remain unanswered for now, but the long-term plan is still for The Visionary to face Roman Reigns at next year's WrestleMania.
"Seth Rollins was tentatively scheduled to wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania," Meltzer shared. "I don’t know this, but I have been told enough things to where I expected there would be a turn on Seth Rollins at some point because the whole thing with this faction was that it was not about Seth Rollins. It was about Bron Breakker and making Bron Breakker the next Roman Reigns."
It seems WWE's goal is still to make Breakker its next big thing. The writing has been on the wall in that respect for some time now, and the end of RAW made it clear that he wishes to hold the World Heavyweight Champion. If Rollins is forced to vacate the title, then that could put Breakker on a collision course with Punk.
