Vince McMahon has been known to change his mind on a whim, and it sounds like the WWE Chairman has had a change of heart when it comes to Jeff Hardy.
As you may recall, WWE released the Charismatic Enigma in December when he reportedly walked out of a WWE Live event. Fans in attendance claimed he appeared sluggish, while the general consensus appeared to be that Hardy was under the influence of something after a long history with substance abuse issues.
We've since heard and seen a fair bit of evidence that might not have been the case after all, meaning WWE potentially jumped the gun by releasing Hardy after he refused rehab.
Now, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis recently called Jeff in a bid "to get him back a few weeks ago, including an offer to put him in the 2022 Hall of Fame class." That's quite a turnaround, but Hardy - clearly upset at how he was released - turned down the offer and instead asked for his results from the drug test (those took six weeks to come back, but he's not been made privy to them).
Hardy's WWE non-compete ends on March 9, and it seems highly likely he'll sign with AEW and join his brother Matt. WWE is looking to avoid that, hence the Hall of Fame offer.
We'll keep you guys updated as this story continues to develop.
