Jinder Mahal went from being a jobber no one really cared about to WWE Champion and perhaps the most hated heel on the SmackDown Live roster. While many fans doubted his chances of success, it's a role the Modern Day Maharaja has flourished in even if it has been widely reported that it's only because WWE is hoping to increase Network subscription numbers in India.
Well, Triple H has another opinion on the matter. During a recent conference call to discuss NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, The Game shed some light on why Mahal has received such a significant push and pointed out that it wasn't all that long ago that the current WWE Champion came close to becoming the first ever NXT Champion (a title that Seth Rollins would ultimately hold).
"We always thought he had the potential to [win the WWE Championship]. He was one of the last two guys in the finals for me at the first, to determine the first NXT Champion. People forget that. I thought he had that ability. He came right up to main roster, things didn’t pan out the way we wanted them to pan out. You can talk to him about that, he’ll kind of give you his take on it too as well. Part of that’s him, part of that’s us, part of that being not ready for it. Drew McIntrye, same thing, right? Nothing always goes the way you plan. But, you take them out of the environment, when both those guys left us, it looked – go figure some things out, take your time, mature. Be ready for the opportunity, because when it comes back, you’re gonna want to be able to kill it, and they both have. I think that’s great."
Triple H makes some very interesting points but it's arguably WWE's fault that Mahal did so poorly after arriving on the main roster. He wouldn't be the first Superstar the company has dropped the ball on either but the likes of Tyler Breeze and Sami Zayn have done their best to overcome that so his point about some wrestlers needing to step away for a while is arguably a valid one.
