At this year's Bad Blood PLE in Atlanta, Georgia, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg was at ringside alongside his family to watch the action unfold.
However, when World Heavyweight Champion Gunther hit the ring to hype up his Crown Jewel match with Cody Rhodes, the Austrian quickly rescinded his recent compliments for the WCW icon (made why he was antagonising Bret Hart) and threw a few insults at Goldberg's son.
The former Universal Champion was having none of it and had to be stopped by security from entering the ring.
WWE is believed to be planning something for Goldberg - possibly the final match Vince McMahon took from him - and in a new podcast, the fan-favourite pro wrestler broke his silence on what went down at the PLE.
"I took Wanda and Gage to an event in Atlanta. I was in Atlanta for some business, filming a TV show. WWE extended an invitation and we came and experienced it. I don’t know how many live events I’ve actually experienced in that situation. It was cool. It was a great invite. Gage had a weekend off. I should have known, right? I should have known somebody was going to try and mess with me. In Atlanta, no less."
"We were having a great time. And Gunther, I don’t want to make anything more of it than it was. You know me, I’m not going to sit there and let some dude talk shit. Period. End of story. What started out to be an innocent attendance of a pay-per-view turned out to being insulted by one of their current champions. I don’t care where we were. I would have done the same thing anywhere. It being Atlanta, my adopted hometown."
"I ain’t dead yet, man. As long as I’m breathing, don’t ever talk shit about me, especially my family. When he brought Gage into it and me being a dad, that was it. It was nothing more than that. Next question."
While we don't believe a match with Gunther is anywhere close to being set in stone, it would be nice if WWE came up with something for Goldberg heading into WrestleMania season next year.
We know he's limited with what he can do in the ring - that was evident from his last run - but Goldberg can surely squash a heel with a Spear and Jackhammer to end his in-ring career on a high note.
