Gene Okerlund, who was the voice of the WWE for an entire generation of fans, has passed away.
WWE officially announced the sad news over Twitter, although no details on the cause of death were provided. Okerlund was 76-years-old.
"Mean Gene," as he was dubbed by Jesse "The Body" Ventura back in the day, is widely considered to be one of the greatest interviewers of all time, and is almost as well known for his time in WCW as he was in the World Wrestling Federation, as it was known at the time.
In 2001, Okerlund returned to WWE to call the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania 17 along with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and continued to appear on WWE television programming, including being a cast member on WWE Network’s Legends’ House.
R.I.P. to a true legend in the wrestling business and condolences to his family.
