WWE Has Issued A Statement In Response To The Controversy Surrounding Jinder Mahal's SMACKDOWN LIVE Promo

WWE champion Jinder Mahal's promo on his Hell in A Cell opponent Shinsuke Nakamura on this past Tuesday's edition of Smackdown Live crossed a line in many peoples' eyes, as the Modern Day Maharajah worked a few highly questionable things into his mockery of the Japanese Superstar.

The backlash came to the attention of The Washington Post, and this seems to have led to WWE issuing an official statement on the matter:

Just like many other TV shows or movies, WWE creates programming with fictional personalities that cover real world issues and sensitive subjects. As a producer of such TV shows, WWE Corporate is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.

The company clearly takes the same stance as a contingent of fans has: a heel character should do and say horrible stuff in order to make people hate him. However, this doesn't address the fact that the promo simply wasn't appropriate for a PG-13 rated show, which is another major problem people had with the segment.
