WWE Issues Statement After Sasha Banks And Naomi WALK OUT Of RAW; Backstage News On What Happened

WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of last night's RAW after clashing with Vince McMahon and various producers, and we have news - and an official statement - about what happened.

Despite being Women's Tag Team Champions, Sasha Banks and Naomi were supposed to square off during last night's episode of RAW as part of a Six-Pack Challenge match featuring then, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Doudrop, and Nikki A.S.H. However, The Boss and Glow Connection walked out of the show - not as part of a storyline; for real - prompting Corey Graves to deem them "unprofessional" on air.

That match was later changed to Asuka vs. Lynch, and a lot of backstage news has since surfaced that contradicts WWE's version of events and may not bode well for either woman in the company.

The general consensus appears to be that neither Banks nor Naomi is happy with how they've been booked as Tag Team Champions and they couldn't see the sense in wrestling each other when they're supposed to be partners. Apparently, the plan was to essentially put their title reign on hold until Money in the Bank in July as Naomi was set to feud with RAW Women's Champion Bianca Belair and Banks with SmackDown Women's Champion Ronda Rousey.

However, they were both set to lose those feuds and then go back to being defending Tag Team Champions. Banks and Naomi took their concerns to Vince McMahon, but clashes with producers followed and that culminated with both women leaving their titles behind and walking out of the show.

WWE has, surprisingly, issued a lengthy statement that you can read in full below:

"When Sasha Banks and Naomi arrived at the arena this afternoon, they were informed of their participation in the main event of tonight's Monday Night Raw.

"During the broadcast, they walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk and walked out.

"They claimed they weren't respected enough as tag team champions. And even though they had eight hours to rehearse and construct their match, they claimed they were uncomfortable in the ring with two of their opponents even though they'd had matches with those individuals in the past with no consequence. Monday Night Raw is a scripted live TV show, whose characters are expected to perform the requirements of their contract.

"We regret we were unable to deliver, as advertised, tonight's main event."
