Damian Priest has now held the Money in the Bank briefcase for close to 200 days and, during that time, we've seen a lot of aborted cash-in attempts.
For a time, it seemed as if Priest might cash in on Finn Balor during his repeated attempts to defeat Seth Rollins for the belt. It didn't happen and Senor Money in the Bank has since become Undisputed Tag Team Champions with his Judgement Day ally.
It's clear WWE has big plans for The Judgement Day member and that he'd make a worthy World Heavyweight Champion (particularly if a run with the title cements him as one of the company's top single stars).
Today, multiple insiders are claiming that Priest is finally "close" to cashing in and, interestingly, "extra pyro" has been prepared for this evening's episode of RAW. This may be for a completely unrelated segment, while it's surely not completely outlandish to think Jinder Mahal could shock the world by defeating Rollins.
The Visionary has held the title for a little too long at this stage and it feels like RAW could do with a new heel champion, especially as we head into WrestleMania. Of course, there's always the possibility that Priest fails to successfully cash in like Austin Theory before him.
"It’s just keeping an eye out," Priest said last year of when he'll choose his moment. "The focus right now is keeping these [tag team titles]. But I’m always conscious, always watching the champions that are left, whatever champions are left at this point. We’re always watching, and I’m always keeping an eye to see, ‘Is today a good day? Is this a good opportunity?'"
"I have a whole year, so I don’t have any rush to just cash in that contract when it’s not perfect. It has to be perfect. It has to be perfect."
"I’ve seen a few moments that I thought, ‘Maybe, but it’s not perfect yet.’ Right now, my focus is making sure we’re all on the same page and all champions," he added. "But when the time comes and that perfect time comes, it’ll get cashed in, and it’ll happen."
Tonight's episode of RAW will also feature the return of Intercontinental Champion Gunther and The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) squaring off with The Judgement Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest). DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa), meanwhile, battle Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh.
