John Cena's retirement tour has received a mixed response from fans. Whether it's being eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Jey Uso, the heel turn that quickly fell apart, or his loss to Brock Lesnar, there have been some major missteps in the eyes of many.
Cena has contradicted comments from WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque on at least a few occasions, suggesting that he's had no input or creative control of how things play out.
WWE President Nick Khan recently spoke with Logan Paul and shared his take on the fan feedback. "There's not been a dispute with John Cena since he announced his retirement tour," he stated. "There's never a 'I don't like this outcome because it doesn't make me look good.' There’s a lot of 'Hey, let's do this in the storyline.'"
"He said, 'Hey, get me a list of the cities where you think I'm going to appear,'" Khan recalled, before telling Paul what the Leader of the Cenation made of him after they clashed over the summer. "I said, 'Give me your feelings on Logan.' And he said, 'I'll let you know after the match.' Called me maybe an hour or two after the match, and he said he has it."
Cena's retirement hasn't been the only controversy this year, as Lesnar's return also shocked many fans. The Beast was absent from WWE for two years after being caught up in the Vince McMahon scandal, but the majority seem happy to see him in the ring.
Talking to Daniel Cormier, Khan backed the former WWE Champion all the way. "When he walks into a room, he looks, and usually is, the baddest dude on the planet. And that’s what he looks like, and that's his personification. He's a gem to work with — easy."
"So, as long as he sort of knows things in advance, there are no issues. We're honored to have him back. I'm happy he's here."
Back to the WWE President's conversation with Paul, and he was asked about persistent rumours that a fan frequently seen in the front row of WWE shows—dubbed "Green Shirt Guy"—was injured at a previous event and, rather than suing, was granted front-row tickets for life.
"Definitely not," Khan stated. "There's nothing like that on the legal side with him or anyone else. He pays for his seats. He pays a premium for those seats through On Location, and that’s why he gets to be in the front row."
Cena will have his final-ever WWE match at next weekend's Saturday Night's Main Event show, where he'll face either Gunther or LA Knight. As for Lesnar, after recently competing at Survivor Series: WarGames, we don't expect to see him back in the ring until early next year.
