Paramount Pictures recently set Bumblebee for a December 21st, 2018 release and it's also now been confirmed that John Cena has landed a lead role in the Transformers spinoff. Hailee Steinfeld has already been cast in the movie which is expected to be aimed at younger moviegoers.
Joining those two will be Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.
The movie set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. However, when Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.
There's no word on who Cena will be playing but him taking on the role of Charlie's father definitely makes sense. This is by far his biggest acting gig to date after recent appearances in the likes of The Wall and Trainwreck and could be the movie which takes him another step further away from wrestling as he looks to become the next Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) is helming Bumblebee from a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Are you excited to see what Cena brings to the table in this first movie from Paramount's planned shared universe for the Transformers franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
