LA Knight's star is clearly on the rise, and the WWE Superstar who was brought to the main roster as Maximum Male Models manager "Max Dupri" has proven himself an invaluable part of the company in recent months.
Fans have gotten behind him in a big way and, as things stand, he's both one of WWE's top merchandise sellers and its most popular stars.
Knight's push began in earnest after his Battle Royal win at SummerSlam, and it's recently been reported that he's listed internally as SmackDown's top babyface. That just goes to show the sort of faith WWE has in him (he even got the rub from John Cena after defeating The Miz at Payback this past weekend).
Now, PWInsider.com is reporting that Knight is in the midst of negotiating a deal with WWE that's either close to being finalised or potentially already signed. It's said to be a 5-year contract extension, telling us all we need to know about how much have faith WWE has in him being a major talent in the company for years to come.
In related news, the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter just hit and, in that, Dave Meltzer says the plan is now for Knight to receive a "megapush."
"Knight is expected to get a megapush going forward," the historian explains, "given that the ratings for his segments and his merchandise sales have both been very strong."
Knight's current feud with The Miz feels like a stepping stone to bigger and better things, but time will tell what those are. Many fans would like to see him win championship gold, but given who currently holds each title, there isn't currently a natural fit for a rivalry.
Knight has found success outside of WWE as both a former IMPACT World Champion and former tag team champion in both that company and NWA. During the time he spent in NXT, he feuded with Cameron Grimes over the Million Dollar Championship in what proved to be a standout storyline.
Hopefully, both WWE and Knight can keep the Yeah! Movement's momentum going because this could be leading somewhere really special...
