Survivor Series: WarGames took place on Saturday, and we're expecting tonight's episode of RAW to be massive.
Over the weekend, Triple H said, "So many questions, so many unanswered things...who was the masked man at the end? All of the things you wanna come away from not being answered are there, sitting in front of you. Monday night is gonna be epic."
It's a little soon to be building to next April's WrestleMania. However, the Road to WrestleMania is fast approaching, and we'd bet on WWE focusing on that shortly after John Cena's retirement match takes place later this month. After all, we can now say that the Royal Rumble takes place next month!
Talking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE's current plan is for Unisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns (Rhodes vs. Reigns III) to headline one night, and World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. Bron Breakker to main event the other.
"Punk getting pinned. That finish was there, it was there to tell the story," Meltzer stated. "The story is, like I said the other day, this whole thing when we come out of this match, the idea was, we’re supposed to know WrestleMania, which is Cody and Roman and Punk and Bron Breakker are the championship matches. So that’s what was there for."
"That’s the plan as of today, yeah. It’s a rubber match," he said of the thinking behind Rhodes and Reigns squaring off again. "He [Bron] pinned CM Punk, the world champion, so he deserves a championship match. Just basic old school booking. That’s what it was there for. Did you see Cody and Roman at the end? It was very clear."
At the end of Survivor Series: WarGames, Punk was indeed pinned by Breakker. WWE also teased tension between Rhodes and Reigns, albeit with the American Nightmare coming across in a heelish fashion.
During a recent interview, Punk shared his thoughts on Breakker. "Yeah, I do [see the future of the business in him], whether I like it or not," the Second City Said said. "He's somebody that I think you wouldn't be able to stop if you tried. He's got all the tools. Second generation superstar."
"His dad and his uncle were possibly one of the greatest tag teams of the 80s and the 90s," Punk continued. "So yeah, he's one of those blue chip prospects that we always like to talk about."
How do you feel about these potential WrestleMania main events?
