Preview & Predictions for AEW Dynamite:
On tap for tonight's episode, we'll be hearing from Will Ospreay and "Hangman" Adam Page in promo segments. Obviously, they'll be addressing the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and their finals match against each other at AEW Double or Nothing. We'll also have a sit-down interview with Jamie Hayter as Renee Paquette asks her about the same thing, as Hayter is in the finals of the women's bracket and will face Mercedes Mone.
Though it isn't advertised, we'll see more of the progression of MJF trying to work his way into The Hurt Syndicate, and strangely, for what feels like the second month straight at this point, not much has been announced for The Death Riders other than one match with Claudio Castagnoli going up against Samoa Joe. Clearly, Joe wins that one, as it will give him some momentum heading into next week's steel cage title match against Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship.
"Timeless" Toni Storm has a four-way, and by that, I mean an eliminator match against three opponents. If Thunder Rosa, Penelope Ford, or Anna Jay win, they'll receive a future AEW Women's World Championship opportunity. This is an easy (albeit lazy in some ways) means to have someone like Rosa get a pin on Ford or Jay so that she technically wins and can become the No. 1 contender without actually beating Storm. That match could very well take place at Double or Nothing if it goes down that way.
Kevin Knight has an eliminator match against Kazuchika Okada as well. Eliminator matches can go either way. If Knight does win this, he doesn't win the title, in my mind, but he could very well just lose this.
Finally, Ricochet and The Young Bucks will face Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, and Mike Bailey. The heels have an advantage as villains push storylines alone, but if anyone on the babyface side gets a pin, it will be Swerve.
Here are your results for AEW Dynamite May 7, 2025:
- Promo: "Hangman" Adam Page spoke about moving on from his past transgressions and focusing on the Owen Hart Cup. Will Ospreay came out to talk about how he's going to win. The Don Callis Family interrupted and stayed on the stage to badmouth Ospreay, who challenged them to a tag team match, even though Page wasn't seemingly on board. That will take place next week.
- Stokely Hathaway and FTR bullied Tony Schiavone and threatened to see Nigel McGuinness tomorrow night.
- Women's World Championship Eliminator 4-Way Match: Toni Storm defeated Anna Jay, Penelope Ford and Thunder Rosa by submission over Ford.
- The Hurt Syndicate wonder that if this is where the best wrestle, where are the best tag teams willing to step up and take the titles from them. Top Flight came out to put their names in the hat. MJF then attacked them to prove that he can hurt someone, after what Bobby Lashley said last week. Lashley says he'll be waiting for MJF next week.
- Backstage, The Elite had a promo with Okada running down Knight. Ricochet and The Young Bucks then talked out their Swerve Strickland problem. Ricochet said if they follow his lead, he'll lead them to a win. As Nick and Matt Jackson went to their locker rooms, The Death Riders were waiting for them.
- Nick Wayne retained the ROH World Television Championship over Rhino by pinfall. Christian Cage dropped the title belt instead of handing it to Wayne or putting it around his waist.
- Rush complained about Kevin Knight costing him $100,000 and said he's looking for revenge in blood.
- The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) & Ricochet defeated Swerve Strickland, Mike Bailey, & Mark Briscoe by pinfall (Nick Jackson pinned Strickland)
- Backstage, MJF interrupted Will Ospreay's interview with Renee Paquette to say he hopes Ospreay wins the tournament and the title so that he can beat him for it after All In: Texas. Ospreay points out that if it was so easy for him, he would've entered the Owen Hart Cup and that he's not on the level of the devil, because he's on another level.
- Jamie Hayter was interviewed by Renee Paquette. Hayter was attacked by Mercedes Mone. They fought to the stage and Hayter came out on top of the scrap, but Mone ran back after she had run off and attacked Hayter from behind to get the upper hand.
- Kris Statlander tried to apologize to Willow Nightingale, who isn't really interested in hearing her out, but suggested they face off tomorrow night on Collision.
- Rush attacked Kevin Knight before his scheduled match.
- AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match: Kazuchika Okada defeated "The Jet" Kevin Knight by pinfall.
- Don Callis spoke on behalf of "RPG Vice" to put a challenge out there for The Outrunners to find some teammates to face The Don Callis Family (seemingly Rocky Romero, Trent Beretta, Lance Archer, and Kyle Fletcher).
- Samoa Joe defeated Claudio Castagnoli by submission. Death Riders came out to attack Joe after the match, but Joe was backed up by Powerhouse Hobbs with a steel chair. Hobbs and Joe beat down Castagnoli in the ring with the chair as Jon Moxley, Marina Shafir, and Wheeler Yuta all stayed back.
