Preview & Predictions for AEW Dynamite Spring Breakthru:
On tap for tonight's episode, the card is pretty packed. Two titles are on the line and the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament is rolling along.
The Hurt Syndicate will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Gates of Agony. Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona have no real momentum on their side, and MJF is likely to help out Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin as well, so those titles are staying put.
The AEW World Trios Championship, though, is very likely to change hands. PAC is injured, so world champion Jon Moxley is stepping in to help Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta defend against The Opps. With PAC out of action, it's the perfect time to crown new champions. (Update prior to the show, Hook has apparently been pulled from the show, which puts the title change considerably in doubt.)
"Hangman" Adam Page has his quarterfinal tournament match against the wild card, which could be almost anyone. My best guess is that it's Josh Alexander, but there are plenty others who could fit the bill.
Mercedes Mone will beat Athena in their semifinals match, as this is taking place in Boston, giving Mone the homefield advantage, but it's at least possible Athena wins. Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita should be fantastic with Ospreay the likely winner.
All that and more will go down, so be sure to keep refreshing for updates throughout the show!
Here are your results for AEW Dynamite April 16, 2025:
- Women's Owen Hart Cup Semifinals Match: Mercedes Moné defeated Athena by pinfall.
- Men's Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinals Match: "Hangman" Adam Page defeated Josh Alexander by pinfall. After the match, Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher came out, and after Callis spoke to Alexander, he helped Fletcher beat down Page.
- Nick Wayne started to cut a promo about how someone needs to step up when the father of a patriarchy is absent, only for Christian Cage to then show up and get nose-to-nose with Wayne. Wayne says he thinks Cage cashed in his contract just to try to be a world champion before Cope. Cage claims that he gave him a month to see what he can do without him and he was impressed, so he took it upon himself to procure Wayne a spot in the Super Juniors tournament in New Japan. Tomorrow on Collision, Wayne faces Komander for the ROH World Television Championship.
- AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Hurt Syndicate (c) (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) retained over The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) by pinfall. After the match, MJF tries to appeal to The Hurt Syndicate by offering them some girls and even giving Shelton Benjamin his watch, but only MVP gives him a thumbs up yet again.
- Men's Owen Hart Cup Semifinals Match: Will Ospreay defeated Konosuke Takeshita by pinfall.
- AEW World Trios Championship Handicap Match: The Opps (Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata) and Powerhouse Hobbs defeated The Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, & Jon Moxley) (c) by submission to win the titles!
