We have more information about Red Velvet’s injury.

Last week, it was confirmed by Tony Khan himself that the ROH Women’s World Television Champion suffered a major injury that forced her on the sidelines.

“I had been hoping to start the ROH Women’s Pure Tournament a bit sooner, had some injuries and now have had another injury that changes the structure, and the scheduling for some of the big matches in the ROH women’s division, and that is with the ROH Women’s World Television Title, and champion Red Velvet. She’s doing a fantastic job, I really like Red Velvet a lot, and I think she’s having a great 2025.

A lot of her best work has been international competition with CMLL, and representing ROH as the World TV Champion in CMLL in great matches, including on the Global Wars special, which I thought was one of the best episodes of ROH TV we’ve had, and I think one of the best episodes of TV ROH has ever done. It featured incredible matches, [Khan runs down the top bouts], and we saw a preview of the Women’s World Championship match [at Supercard of Honor] with Athena and Thunder Rosa lined up on opposite sides, and we also had the Women’s World TV Champion Red Velvet involved in that match.”

Red Velvet would follow up Tony Khan’s statement by confirming that’s indeed injured; however, it was never stated what the exact nature of the injury was. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter finally answers that burning question during his recent episode.

Velvet actually suffered an injury to her neck during her match against CMLL”s Kira in Mexico City. This bout happened during the joint AEW-NJPW-CMLL show on June 22. The nature of the neck injury has yet to be determined, though Tony Khan has created an interim ROH Women’s World Television Champion, so it’s likely that Velvet is going to be out for a while.

Mina Shirakawa beat Miyu Yamashita, Yuka Sakazaki, and Persephone to become the interim ROH Women’s World Television Champion at Supercard of Honor. The new AEW star will defend the belt until Red Velvet returns; with the two title holders having a match to crown the undisputed champion. However, there’s a possibility that if Velvet’s injury will keep her out for a very long time then Shirakawa will simply be crowned the new ROH Women’s World Television Champion.
