Several matches were set up for AEW Collision, as well as Double or Nothing. Among them, The Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara) will face CRU (Action Andretti and Lio Rush) on Collision to see who gets an AEW World Tag Team Championship opportunity against The Hurt Syndicate for the pay-per-view.
Speaking of The Hurt Syndicate, they had another vote on whether or not to bring Maxwell Jacob Friedman into the group. For the first time, it was a unanimous thumbs up, as even Bobby Lashley was impressed enough with how MJF took out Top Flight last week and proved that he can hurt people. Afterward, though, there was a brief bit of tension when MJF introduced MVP to "Smart" Mark Sterling. MVP was taken aback, and MJF said that since this is a business deal, he naturally had to have his lawyer check out the contract before signing it next week. Whether or not that will lead to some problems, we'll have to find out next Wednesday on Dynamite.
Mina Shirakawa won the four-way eliminator match that "Timeless" Toni Storm, AZM, and a returning Skye Blue took part in. Blue's return comes after being injured for the past year almost, last wrestling on the July 20, 2024 edition of Collision wherein she suffered a broken ankle. Mercedes Mone attacked AZM after the match to get some payback for AZM beating her for the New Japan Pro-Wrestling STRONG Women's Championship at Resurgence recently, and for those wondering, Shirakawa pinned Storm to earn the title shot for Double or Nothing.
Another noteworthy moment happened with Shirakawa, though, as she debuted her new entrance music, only for people to complain so much about it on X that Tony Khan decided to change it back to her old music, actually even responding in a tweet that he did in fact listen to the fans (rather than that just being a conspiracy theory or a slip-up in the music department).
Nigel McGuiness will team with Daniel Garcia against FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) on next week's Dynamite after a challenge was put out by Stokely Hathaway, leading to FTR beatin down Garcia and McGuinness.
Also, Gabe Kidd made a shocking appearance when he interfered in the main event steel cage match for the AEW World Championship, giving Jon Moxley the briefcase so he could use it as a weapon on Joe and win the match.
Eventually, with Death Riders, The Elite, and a barrage of babyfaces backing up The Opps, Swerve Strickland put out a challenge for an Anarchy in the Arena match for Double or Nothing, which has yet to be fully confirmed as far as which participants will be involved.
