Can Jeff Jarrett finally earn an AEW World Championship match?
Earlier this month, the former TNA World Champion made his mission statement clear; this is Jarrett’s final run as an active performer and wants to become the next AEW World Champion. The problem? A maniacal cult leader currently holds the top prize in the company. The leader has a powerful follower - Claudio Castagnoli.
The former ROH World Champion has been on a tear since joining Jon Moxley and The Death Riders. Castagnoli is arguably stronger and faster than Jarrett, but the former Intercontinental Champion has a vast amount of experience that can get him the three count. Will a new number one contender be crowned on tonight’s episode? Or will Claudio Castagnoli shut down that dream once and for all?
In the only title match of the evening, Mercedes Mone will defend the TBS Championship against Yuka Sakazaki. Mone has successfully defended her belt 12 times thus far, and the former WWE star has become quite the title collector in recent months. She also holds the NJPW STRONG Women's Championship and the RevPro Undisputed British Women's Championship; the champion is clearly at the peak of her career.
That doesn’t mean that Yuka Sakazaki should be counted out. The challenger has won numerous titles in Japan including the Princess of Princess Championship. Yuka has been wrestling for over a decade and beaten some of the top names in the business; could Mercedes Mone be added to the list on tonight’s show?
