The highly touted AEW Championship Eliminator Tournament got underway last night on AEW Dynamite, and while there were no big surprises among the advancing wrestlers, we are heading towards two exciting semi-final matches.
Wardlow vs. Jungle Boy kicked things off, with Mr. Mayhem picking up the win with an F10 after a very good back-and-forth encounter. Later, we saw the return of "The Cleaner" Kenny Omega, complete with new entrance music, the "broom girls," and an even more douchey attitude than usual. Omega squashed Sonny Kiss (Joe Janella was replaced after coming into contact with COVID) in less than a minute with a V-Trigger/One-Winged Angel combo.
Next up was the match of the night: Rey Fenix vs. Penta El Zero M. The Lucha Bros. put on an excellent showcase, with the former finally scoring the pinfall victory after hitting a Destroyer. Finally, Adam Page defeated Colt Cabana with a Buckshot Lariat.
Of course, we're almost certainly going to see Page vs. Omega in the finals, and Kenny is the current favourite to go on and face - possibly defeat - Jon Moxley for the title.
