Life seems good for Jeff Hardy in TNA Wrestling.
Ever since he made the jump from AEW in 2024, him and Matt Hardy have been tearing it up in the promotion. These days, the former TNA World Tag Team Champion seems to be really healthy, as Jeff recently celebrated three years of sobriety.
While everything is going well with Jeff in TNA, his final year or two in AEW wasn't particularly a high point in Jeff’s career. When the 47-year-old came into AEW in 2022, he was instantly fast tracked as one of the main attractions of the promotion. Tony Khan seemed high on Jeff Hardy.
Then he was arrested on June 14, 2022.
That moment changed Jeff’s career in AEW as he slid down the card immediately. Jeff was barely featured on AEW television in his final year and it’s quite possible that’s due to his arrest for another DUI charge.
The former AEW star understands why Tony Khan probably didn’t trust him after that arrest, but Jeff expressed during his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show that he still wasn't given a fair chance.
"My personal problems. Getting in trouble with the law. I think I never got a fair chance to redeem myself. Coming back, at least that's how I felt. I totally understood why they didn't want to give me that chance. They probably can't trust me. I'm just a liability. I was telling myself all these terrible things about getting what I got and getting arrested again. There is so much guilt and shame involved in that. Naturally, I beat myself up about it. I just don't think we ever had a fair chance because of that. I blame myself all the time"
Matt chimed in and he essentially agreed that getting into trouble with the law again was a big factor, but he also thinks that their style didn’t mesh well with the current AEW product.
"That probably factors into things, I think. He was back and I feel like he did pretty good to prove himself. I figured there would be a little bit of a testing period with him. With myself, Jeff, Adam [Cope], and Jay [Christian Cage] all together. I figured they would at least have us in the ring and if we're doing something together, it would be a hell of a segment because there is so much value in the four of us being together because of our history. It didn't happen. Tony Khan is a great guy. Paid me very well. I like him. Got along with him. He has his style and choice of wrestling that he likes to see and I don't know if all of us factored in."
