Kenny Omega is our new AEW international champion, furthering his legacy in All Elite Wrestling and for his overall wrestling career with a new title reign after defeating Konosuke Takeshita for the title at AEW Revolution 2025.

This was only Omega's fourth match since returning to action earlier this year at Wrestle Dynasty, after being forced on the shelf for well over a year due to severe complications from diverticulitis, which nearly ended his career, if not his life.

Upon returning, Omega's rivalry with The Don Callis Family was reignited, and his backstory with Konosuke Takeshita became a groundwork to tell a story of The Alpha becoming better over the past decade-plus to become his equal. Determined to prove he's not just that, but his superior successor, this was an important match for both men to win, even without the title on the line.

Ultimately, whether just a lucky pin or an illustration of his veteran skills giving him an advantage, Omega was able to snatch a three-count from Takeshita with a crucifix pinfall, winning the title and putting Takeshita's second-longest International Championship run to an end at 149 days—sandwiched between Orange Cassidy's two runs.

Takeshita's run started at AEW WrestleDream in October. When is it that Omega will pass the belt onto the next champion?

Well, there has been speculation that All Elite Wrestling may be gearing up to merge the International Championship with the Continental Championship, which now feels like more of a possibility, considering a match between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada (who retained tonight in a match against Brody King) has been heavily implied for All In: Texas on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Whether that means Omega defeats Okada to unify the titles, or puts Okada over as the double-champion, remains to be seen. Of course, anything can happen in professional wrestling, so there's no guarantee Omega is able to carry this title into that match in the first place!

How do you feel about Takeshita's title reign coming to an end? Do you have anyone in mind for the next in line to face Omega for the International Championship? Where does this all go? Keep the discussion going by leaving a comment below!
