Last month, the news broke that both CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are reportedly heading to AEW. Needless to say, this promises to be a game-changer for the company, and a major blow to WWE at a time they could do with a couple of huge stars to turn around those declining ratings.
Recently, we spoke to Paul "Big Show" Wight and shared his thoughts on these possible signings with you. Now, in an interview with The New York Post, Mark Henry has weighed in.
"I think it would be great for [any company] because you have unbelievable talent and two of the more master psychologists that I’ve worked with, guys that you sit down and you think, what’s not being done in pro wrestling?" he said. "When you have a mindset of, ‘I want to do something everybody else don’t do,’ then automatically you are ahead of the game. You already have everybody. They’re gonna be on edge because once they see something they haven’t seen in years and it was really, really cool and you see someone who is well established and it’s gonna get over."
Henry also shared his thoughts on those recent releases and whether they could make the leap to AEW. "[Why] not go somewhere you can go and put your stamp of approval on something and make that work? It has nothing to do with the other company. The other company is irrelevant at that point," the World's Strongest Man explained. "It’s about your individual talent. Talent is gonna rise to the top every time. It doesn’t matter what you did before. People ask for their releases so they can go and do what they feel like is more them than what the company is providing."
We know Henry has been scouting talent for AEW, while there were even rumours that he had been in talks with Braun Strowman about him joining the company. With that in mind, it feels like he's choosing his words carefully here, and the writing does appear to be on the wall now when it comes to both Bryan and Punk's in-ring future. However, we have to stress that nothing is confirmed yet.
Are you excited to see these two former WWE Champions make a splash in AEW?
