Several matches for upcoming shows and events were announced on the January 22, 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite, while a few more were teased, but not yet made official.
When it comes to AEW Grand Slam (taking place February 15th at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Queensland, Australia), a tag team match has been added to the lineup.
At the start of tonight's episode, Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay had a promo segment where they spoke about how they don't trust and/or like each other, but found themselves once again working together to fight off The Don Callis Family. This has led to a match where they will team up against two members of that faction, the AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher.
This accompanies the only other match officially confirmed for this show, which is Mariah May defending the AEW Women's World Championship against Toni Storm after Storm had won the Women's Casino Gauntlet match.
Something else was confirmed, though, in a roundabout way, as the AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone did tell Renee Paquette in a backstage segment that she is going to be wrestling on the card, but her opponent has not been established. Harley Cameron tried to insert herself into that spot by singing a song about how she should be Mone's next challenger—inspired by a conversation Cameron had backstage earlier in the night with Toni Storm telling her there's no reason why she can't wrestle in her home country of Australia—but the song didn't make a good enough case for Mercedes to agree to it, outright denying Cameron's challenge with a definitive "no."
Two matches are advertised for next week's episode of AEW Dynamite as well.
First up, Jeff Jarrett will face Claudio Castagnoli with a stipulation that if Jarrett wins, he'll get a title opportunity for the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley. Jarrett had called Moxley out, only to get jumped by Castagnoli, which is what sparked that setup.
Also, Will Ospreay will face Brian Cage of The Don Callis Family as part of the build toward that tag team match.
But before any of that, there's this Saturday's episode of AEW Collision - Homecoming at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mariah May and Toni Storm were set to meet face-to-face tonight, but that's been pushed to Saturday, along with The Gates of Agony against Buddy Matthews & Brody King (to be redubbed The Hounds of Hell), Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker & Matt Menard against Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly & Roderick Strong, and Big Bill looking to prove he's the biggest and baddest in AEW by facing Powerhouse Hobbs in singles competition.
