Red Velvet is injured.
Did you know that Supercard of Honor was this week? The show features Bandido defending the ROH World Championship against Konosuke Takeshita and Athena vs. Thunder Rosa, but it’s only a four match card so far.
That’s pretty light for an AEW/ROH show and apparently for good reason. Tony Khan revealed why the upcoming pay-per-view is a little light on matches and he revealed that several key injuries play a factor in changes to the pay-per-view card.
“I had been hoping to start the ROH Women’s Pure Tournament a bit sooner, had some injuries and now have had another injury that changes the structure, and the scheduling for some of the big matches in the ROH women’s division, and that is with the ROH Women’s World Television Title, and champion Red Velvet. She’s doing a fantastic job, I really like Red Velvet a lot, and I think she’s having a great 2025.
A lot of her best work has been international competition with CMLL, and representing ROH as the World TV Champion in CMLL in great matches, including on the Global Wars special, which I thought was one of the best episodes of ROH TV we’ve had, and I think one of the best episodes of TV ROH has ever done. It featured incredible matches, [Khan runs down the top bouts], and we saw a preview of the Women’s World Championship match [at Supercard of Honor] with Athena and Thunder Rosa lined up on opposite sides, and we also had the Women’s World TV Champion Red Velvet involved in that match,”
Khan was supposed to start the ROH Pure Championship tournament, but it never happened despite a couple of women’s Pure matches in the past couple of weeks. AEW has been hit with the injury bug, so it makes sense why Supercard of Honor is looking so light.
Red Velvet confirmed that she was injured through her social media.
“Not the news I wanted to share. I won’t be cleared to compete at Supercard of Honor due to injury. Don’t get it twisted this is just a pause, not the end. To the new Interim ROH Women’s TV Champ congrats in advance. Hold it down, because when I come back? I’m coming for it ALL,” Red Velvet wrote.
It’s not clear how what the injury is nor how many months Velvet will be out. However, Tony Khan has confirmed that a interim ROH Women’s Television Champion will be crowned, though an exact date and time has yet to be determined. We’ll keep you updated on when Tony Khan reveals that information.
