Is Tay Melo getting closer to an in-ring return?
The AEW star has been on the sidelines since March 2023. She announced her pregnancy at Double or Nothing 2023. Her and Sammy Guevara brought a healthy baby girl into the world in November. However, it wasn’t until August 2024 when Tay was finally cleared to compete. Tay noted how she missed wrestling. Guevara asked during their trip to Wembley Stadium, "That might be soon?"
She replied, "You gotta call Tony Khan and ask him because I don't know about that. I'm cleared, though. I'm cleared. Mama is cleared. Just got cleared."
Tay has been getting into the ring and training ever since. Tay Melo posted a picture with her daughter, Sammy Guevara, and former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega!
Omega himself has been on the injury list since December 2023 due to diverticulitis. The AEW star’s return has officially been confirmed, but for New Japan Pro-Wrestling as Omega is set to take on Gabe Kidd at the Wrestle Dynasty show on January 5th.
This shocked plenty of fans since Omega is still listed as an AEW star, thus people figured that his big return would come at an AEW show. However, the former AEW World Champion explained why he chose to return to New Japan first:
"Yeah, the way I look at it is a lot of people, not only in Japan, but internationally, they never knew who I was until I did big things in New Japan. So I really do owe New Japan a gigantic thank you," Omega explains on Newsweek.
"I do feel that there's a debt I have to repay in some way, shape, form, or fashion. And I think that if by performing at the Tokyo Dome, by making my comeback at the Tokyo Dome, is a way to help repay that, if it can help something for their business, then I'm more than happy to do that."
As for Tay, the jury is still out on when she’s able to make her in-ring return. Before her hiatus, the young star was showing vast improvement from her time in NXT. She wasn’t particularly positioned to be the next world champion, though it wouldn’t have been surprising if she ended up winning one of the major AEW belts.
Nevertheless, Tay will be watching her husband Sammy this Friday as he’ll be fighting alongside Dustin Rhodes in a Texas Bull Rope match against Vincent & Dutch for the ROH World Tag Team titles.
