Samoa Joe is coming off a big victory against The Death Riders.
Him, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata beat Gabe Kidd, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli to retain the AEW Trios Titles. However, that wasn’t the only thing that happened at All In. Once the match concluded, The Death Riders attacked Joe and the AEW star left out on a stretcher.
Many assumed that this was a way for Joe to be written out of the main event and that’s true to a certain degree. Fightful Select confirmed that the segment was done to temporarily write Joe off due to his promotional work for the new season of Twisted Metal.
The unexpected hit is scheduled to return to Peacock on July 31. There’s no timetable for when The Opps member will return, but Joe shouldn’t be out for too long. This isn’t particularly surprising as the former AEW World Champion has been taking time off for the hit Peacock show. Since the promotional work isn’t too long then Tony Khan is unlikely to strip Joe of the Trios title. Then again, if Tony had a problem with Joe being out then he simply would’ve had The Opps drop the belts at All In.
Twisted Metal became a smash hit in 2023 as the television series is based on long running video game series. Below is the synopsis from rotten tomatoes:
TWISTED METAL, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
The series also features Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, and Anthony Mackie.
Should there be more news about Joe’s return then we’ll keep you updated. Given how big the stretcher job was then it’s likely that The Opps will face The Death Riders again, but that’s just pure speculation on my end. Joe should be back in time for Forbidden Door, which is on August 24. There’s no word on whether there’s creative plans for him and The Opps, though Joe is one of the top stars in AEW so it would be surprising if there wasn’t.
