The semi-finals for the Continental Classic have been set!
This past Wednesday, the first-round of the Continental Classic Tournament came to a close. Going in, Kyle Fletcher was on top of the Blue league leaderboard with 12 points. Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada had ten points. Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Claudio Castagnoli were tied at nine points in the Gold League.
This made for a very interesting scenario that could’ve gone in numerous directions. Ultimately, Will Ospreay was able to avenge his losses to Darby Allin and Ricochet with a strong win over Brody King. Claudio failed to beat Komander, thus eliminating him from the semi-finals.
That means a Full Gear rematch between Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher is confirmed. The former International Champion suffered a huge loss against the rising star at the November pay-per-view, so Will Ospreay comes into the match an underdog.
Meanwhile, Kazuchika Okada beat Shelton Benjamin to secure his spot in the semi-finals. The Continental Champion has been solid throughout the tournament, but his opponent, Ricochet, is starting to see a major upswing. Ricochet nabbed a huge victory over Will Ospreay on Collision.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion pulled out all the stops to pin Darby Allin on Wednesday. Despite both men being in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, this will be the first time that Ricochet and Okada face each other in a singles match.
The card has rounded out nicely and there’s an air of mystery on who could walk out as the Continental Champion. Check out the updated line-up for World’s End on December 28th where a four-way match for the AEW World title will headline the final AEW pay-per-view of 2024:
