Saturday night's Royal Rumble PLE saw Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley win their respective Rumble matches, guaranteeing them the opportunity to main event WrestleMania.
The outcomes of both matches were a tad predictable, but exactly what fans wanted, so it's hard to complain. However, the biggest talking point from the show has to be Sami Zayn finally turning on Roman Reigns after the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion violently attacked Kevin Owens alongside the rest of the Bloodline and ordered Sami to do the same.
After hitting the Head of the Table with a chair, Sami was also the victim of a brutal beatdown, though Jey Uso chose to walk out on his family while that took place.
Needless to say, it feels like this is leading somewhere big, and Dave Meltzer is reporting that next month's Elimination Chamber PLE will see Zayn challenge Reigns for the title. "Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn is now as confirmed as it can be for the 2/18 Elimination Chamber show main event in Montreal," he notes.
It's a little hard to fathom Zayn not walking out with the win, especially in Montreal. Given how over he now is, even a screwjob finish that eventually leads to Sami and Owens winning the tag team titles at WrestleMania could feel like a let-down, so where does WWE go from here?
With rumblings that the company is looking to separate the WWE and Universal Championships, we'd argue that it makes perfect sense for Reigns to drop both titles to Rhodes and Zayn across the two-night WrestleMania. That would serve as a fresh start for WWE, and gives the Big Dog chance to go away and come back with a new gimmick.
As for the Elimination Chamber match, it's now unclear what that will be used for.
We'll see what happens, but it's looking like the next few months could be the biggest and most important of Zayn's WWE career.
