A couple of months ago, we learned that WWE was considering having John Cena face Logan Paul at WrestleMania. Plans have obviously since changed, with the latter now set to battle Seth Rollins and the leader of the Cenation returning to challenge Austin Theory for the United States Championship.
However, while the match won't be taking place at the Show of Shows, GiveMeSport is reporting that it's on the table for this year's SummerSlam.
Both Cena and Paul are said to be keen on working with each other, believing it's a big money match (which will no doubt be beneficial to them both).
"Logan loved the idea and Cena was totally down [for] it," the site explains. "They'd have made mega money and it's just a matter of when. They want to tell a good story because they're megastars, so there's got to be a reason."
"The match is very much on the table, even at a SummerSlam. All parties involved want to do it."
With Cena now making an impact in Hollywood and Paul still a huge character on YouTube and social media, a headline-grabbing confrontation like this will put the spotlight on them both and may well even be SummerSlam's main event. It will also generate the sort of mainstream publicity WWE loves!
Love or hate him, Paul has proved he's got what it takes in the ring, and we're sure this one has the potential to be a real show-stealer later this year. Nothing has been confirmed at this point and it remains to be seen whether Cena will be defending the United States title against the influencer!
Stay tuned for updates.
