Last year, Alex Shelley shocked the wrestling community by announcing his retirement from the squared circle.

The former ROH World Tag Team Champion made his return on June 29th and Is now scheduled to face Matt Taven for the ROH World Championship at ROH’s Summer Supercard event in Toronto, Ontario. According to the #1 contender, his life changed on numerous occasions while he was away from the wrestling ring:

“I got divorced, I was homeless, no income, I was paying for school and working for free, and I had some dark, dark days,”

The former Impact Wrestling star reveals what made him decide that it was time to get back inside the squared circle:

"At the time, I was on “E” -- in life, in wrestling, and I really didn't have anything else to offer. I had obligations coming up anyway that would take me away. The time away was a gift, and the weight was a gift. You can’t miss something until there’s separation. It turns out I’m not too bad at all this, and my perspective is pretty unique, I think."

Check out the full interview where Shelley talks about the best advice he’s received about the wrestling business, why he decided to return to the pro wrestling game, and much more.
