Davey Boy Smith Jr. is with All Japan Pro Wrestling.
Where has the second generation star been? Davey Boy Smith Jr. has been quiet on the wrestling scene since his odd release from WWE in 2021. Davey had a second stint with WWE in 2021, but if you look on cage match, you’ll see that he’s only had a dark match during his time in the company. This is correct. For some strange reason, WWE never brought Smith back to television during his second run.
He was eventually released that same year in November. But instead of hanging up the boots, the former WWE Tag Team Champion went back to work on the indie scene and found a permanent home with All Japan Pro Wrestling.
The 39-year-old also worked in familiar territory such as Major League Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but he’s been mainly wrestling down in AJPW. So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the former WWE star has confirmed re-signing a five-month deal with the promotion.
Davey Boy Smith Jr revealed the exciting news on Cafe de Rene with Rene Dupree,
“All Japan have been doing great, and I’m returning back for the Champion Carnival and then staying over until August. So I do five-months contracts with them at a time. So I stay over there for five months. I’m going back [to Japan] March 26th. I’m back in Canada right now, just seeing some family, and then I’m gone away for about five months."
It’s great that the second generation star is finding success in the business. However, when it comes to WWE, Davey Boy Smith Jr hasn’t closed the chapter on a potential return.
“Yeah, there is (that part me that wants another WWE run to show what I can do),” Smith Jr. said to Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling. “That would have to depend on the — I mean, Jimmy (Korderas) knows, a lot of things in wrestling are just timing. Ted DiBiase was the right guy, right place, right time for what Vince (McMahon) wanted and he was there, you know? So, Bret (Hart) happened to be there at a time, pivotal time in the company when they were pushing smaller talent with all the scandals that were going on and stuff but, I’ll get away from that.
“But I’m just saying, so you know, there could be a point where I’m just the guy for whatever position that they need to come in and fill. But, all that I have asked for is the opportunity and a fair chance with some momentum behind it and you never say never. It is possible.
Anything is possible in the world of wrestling. Maybe five years from now we could be looking at your next Mr. WrestleMania.
