According to the latest issue of the
Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), the former IWGP Heavyweight champion was extremely close to signing with Impact Wrestling.
Omega is good friends with Don Callis and the New Japan star was willing to work both Impact and New Japan Pro-Wrestling throughout 2019. Omega was reportedly set to split his time by working 30 dates per year for IMPACT, while leaving the rest of his schedule open for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Sources believe that All Elite Wrestling is what ultimately stopped the former IWGP Heavyweight champion from continuing his run in New Japan and signing with Impact. While official news regarding Omega's future has yet to be announced, ‘The Cleaner’ is expected to announce a new deal once his current contract is up at the end of the month.
