For now, we can cross off former NEVER Openweight champion Will Ospreay competing inside a AEW ring, and completely cross him off of wrestling inside a WWE ring.
Ospreay’s girlfriend, Bea Priestly, is currently signed to the All Elite Wrestling roster, so many wrestling fans wondered whether it was only a matter of time before the ‘Aerial Assassin’ joins Priestly in the all-new promotion. The New Japan star completely shuts down the option during his interview with Catch World, stating that he would love it if New Japan did a business deal with them, but at the moment, he just isn’t interested in signing exclusively with AEW (transcript courtesy of
wrestletalk):
“Probably not. Unless, if NJPW does a little business deal with them. I hope they do, I really do. I’d love to do some work with AEW. But as far as ‘Would I sign a contract with AEW?’. Absolutely not”.
Ospreay then explained why he wouldn't sign exclusively with All Elite Wrestling:
“It requires me to move to America. It’s not that I don’t like America, it’s just I like Japan. I love everything about Japan. I love England as well. I wouldn’t get to see my family. Although, you could counter argue it- there could be some stuff.”
However, Ospreay completely closed the door on joining WWE, as the ‘Aerial Assassin’ doesn’t see his style fitting with the company’s structure:
“I don’t want to work for WWE, it’s not for me. It’s just not for me. I love New Japan. I love everything about Japanese wrestling.”
