Looks like Von Wagner could be all elite soon.
In a big surprise, Cal Bloom (aka Von Wagner) made his debut for Ring of Honor, but it was in an enhancement talent position. Bloom teamed with Deonn Rusman and the duo were fed to the Gates of Agony. Ultimately, it wasn’t much of a match other than to make GOA look dominant and strong.
Bloom has been popping up in wrestling as of late. The former NXT star made his AEW debut as a Security Guard on the March 26th episode. There’s no rumors at the moment about Bloom signing with AEW/ROH. In fact, given the jobber treatment in ROH, it doesn’t seem that Tony Khan has much plans for Bloom beyond these brief appearances.
Under the horrendous name of Von Wagner, the 30-year-old was one of the big faces of early NXT 2.0. There was even a point where Wagner made his debut on Smackdown, with him losing a quick match to Sheamus on the April 10, 2020 episode. Early in NXT 2.0, Wagner was given a solid push and since it was under Vince McMahon, it was easy to see why. However, Wagner slowly went down the card once Triple H and Shawn Michaels took over creative for both the main roster and developmental brands. His last match was against Lexis King in April 2024. He was released from WWE on April 22, 2024.
Since his release, Wagner had been pretty quiet. In fact, he didn’t have any other matches in 2024. He resurfaced for an indie event on March 15th as he took on Shay Diesel at Midwest All-Star Wrestling.
His ROH match is his second bout in 2025. As previously stated, there’s no word on what the future lies for Bloom in ROH/AEW. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see if Tony Khan is interested in signing the former WWE star.
