El Hijo Del Vikingo is facing an interesting name on March 22: Alberto El Patron (aka Alberto Del Rio).
Alberto is actually the AAA Mega Champion. He beat Nic Nemeth back in August 2024 at AAA TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City. The former Del Rio has been mainly fighting for AAA for the past two years. He’s done some outside shows, but the former WWE Champion hasn’t stepped into one of the major promotions since 2018.
Then, Alberto was a member of the Impact roster, but officials terminated his contract when he was not showed for a tag team match. He was scheduled to team with Austin Aries to take on Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr.
But Patron’s issues stem deeper beyond professional wrestling and though the decision to no-show the Impact event was a bad one, his behavior outside of the squared circle has essentially blacklisted him from most of the wrestling companies in North America.
But Alberto has been doing pretty well competing in Mexico. Despite the controversy that overshadows his career, the 47-year-old has been able to fight regularly as the company’s top guy. Alberto is coming off a loss to Pagano & Psycho Clown this past Saturday following interference from his challenger, El Hijo Del Vikingo.
Vikingo is getting back into the swing of things after 2024 saw him out of action due to injuries. The popular luchador has been AAA Mega Champion previously, as Vikingo held the belt for 833 days. That’s about two years. He had 24 title defenses; some of those defenses were against names like Kenny Omega, Bandido, Rey Fenix, and Komander. He was forced to vacate the title due to injury.
Say what you will about Alberto, but he is still a solid hand in the ring so this should be a good match. This will be his seventh title defense as Alberto’s most recent title win was in January against Octagon Jr. at WWC Euphoria 2025.
Thus far, that’s the only match confirmed for the upcoming pay-per-view event. Can Alberto El Patron successfully defend his AAA Mega Championship? We’ll find out on March 22!
