In the early goings of the bout, both Hirooki Goto and Jeff Cobb showcased the type of match that would follow, with the New Japan talents exchanging stiff shots and impressive suplexes. Neither man had full control of the contest, as with every forearm strike from Goto, Cobb would return the favor and suplex him out of his boots.

The match-up came down to Cobb hitting a snap German suplex. The former NEVER Openweight Champion seemed to have the match won until Goto countered into a GTR attempt. Cobb would reverse the move, but got caught with hard slam that almost ended the match. Goto then connected with the GTR and scored the three count.

Hirooki Goto’s G1 Climax score is now 4-3 (8 points), whereas Jeff Cobb’s record has fallen to 3-4 (6 points).
