Going into his bout with Sanada, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion had a 0-1 score thanks to his stunning loss to Lance Archer in the opening of the G1 Climax tournament in Dallas, Texas.
Sanada however, was coming in with a nice win over Zack Sabre Jr; The former IWGP Tag Team Champion seemed poised to have another strong showing in the G1 Climax tournament, just like his tremendous performance back in the New Japan Cup earlier this year.
While Sanada did give up a good fight against ‘The Aerial Assassin’, Will Ospreay would bounce back with a win in an excellent match-up between the two New Japan talents.
Not surprisingly, this was a back-and-forth showcase for both men’s talents; however, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion would catch the Los Ingobernables de Japon member with an OsCutter, held on, and then connected with the Storm Breaker for the victory.
Ospreay’s record in the G1 tournament is now 1-1. Thanks to his loss to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Sanada moves down to 1-1.
