For the first time ever, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada faced off against KENTA in the main event of day 9. Both men entered the bout undefeated.
The early portion of the match was a feeling out process for both talents until KENTA was able to connect with a DDT. The former 205 live star got the brief advantage over the IWGP Heavyweight champion, with KENTA targeting the head and neck to set up for his finisher, Go 2 Sleep.
Once Okada was able to hit KENTA with his picture perfect dropkick, the bout went back-and-forth between the New Japan talents. Okada at one point attempted a GTS, but KENTA responded with numerous strikes, putting down the IWGP Heavyweight champion.
In the end, Okada hit KENTA with a spinning tombstone piledriver and a Rainmaker for a three count around the 27 minute mark. Kazuchika Okada’s G1 Climax score is now 5-0 (10 points), whereas KENTA’s record is now 4-1 (8 points).
