The momentum of the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion continues to go up, as Kota Ibushi pulled out a victory over early tournament favorite Lance Archer.
Not surprisingly, the match was about speed vs. power, with the former IWGP Tag Team Champion taking control of Ibushi with his power thanks to moves such as a black hole slam and devastating clotheslines.
However, Ibushi’s speed and striking ability weakened the big man throughout the bout. Archer was able to regain some composure by nailing Ibushi's own signature move, Kamigoye. The Texas native wasn't so lucky with the moonsault attempt however.
Ibushi was able to capitalize and connect with Kamigoye. The former NEVER Openweight Champion only got a nearfall, and made sure to put him away with two more Kamigoyes within 12 minutes.
Kota Ibushi’s record in the G1 Climax tournament is 3-2 (6 points), whereas Archer’s score is 2-3 (4 points).
