For the first-time in his illustrious career with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Kota Ibushi has won the G1 Climax tournament!
Going into the match, Ibushi wasn’t fully 100% due to the vicious attack from his opponent Jay White. The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion has been on a roll despite starting out the competition with a poor record 0-3, as White bounced back and won his six remaining matches in the tournament.
Not surprisingly, White tried to use his cheating tactics that worked so well for him in the past six bouts; however, Ibushi overcame the odds and connected with the Kamigoye that got him the three count after a grueling and excellent 31-minute bout.
Now, Kota Ibushi will headline Wrestle Kingdom 14 against the champion of his choosing. Chances are, the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion will choose to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight title as Ibushi defeated Okada to get into the finals. Of course, plans can always change.
