In the main event of Day 13, SANADA once again faced off against IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. These two met in the finals of the New Japan Cup and after a fantastic encounter between the two men, Okada would walk out victorious that night.
The match-up began as a bit of a stalemate between the New Japan talents; Okada would eventually get the best of SANADA after nailing a DDT. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion would then connect with a dropkick, knocking SANADA off the top rope and onto the floor.
Okada would then beat down the former IWGP Tag Team Champion outside the ring for a little while. After connecting with a DDT, Okada got back into the ring and waited for SANADA to get back inside.
The Los Ingobernables de Japon member eventually got back into the ring and both men had a strike fest, with SANADA getting the best of the exchange. The bout would continue with both SANADA and Okada going back-and-forth, as neither man held the advantage for long periods of time.
The match-up boiled down to both athletes countering each other’s finisher until Okada finally connected with the Rainmaker after countering the Skull End. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion nailed a second Rainmaker, but instead of going for the cover, he attempted a third one, which gave SANADA the opportunity to counter with a Rainmaker of his own.
In the end, after some more exciting back-and-forth down the stretch, SANADA hit a TKO and then several moonsaults to get the three count. SANADA’s G1 Climax score is now 3-4 (6 points), whereas Kazuchika Okada falls down to 6-1 (12 points).
