Just like that, the world of wrestling is buzzing about CM Punk and his surprise return to professional wrestling over the weekend. It’s been confirmed by various outlets that the former WWE Champion was indeed the man behind the mask at Silas Young’s MKE event.

Wrestling Inc. reports that the original plan was to have the former WWE superstar unmask during the live event; however, that idea was eventually nixed. The article goes on stating that Punk waited inside his car until it was time for the appearance, and then instantly left the area after his interference was said and done.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp – who was the first journalist to confirm that the masked man was CM Punk – provided another moment where CM Punk made an appearance at a pro wrestling show that went unknown. The photos below are from a show back in 2015 when a man worked under a cloak. He would toss out salt ahead of the bout as commentators called him the “nameless mentor”. Sapp states that this is the former WWE Champion CM Punk.

There’s no word on what ultimately propelled CM Punk to do this, but its clear that the former WWE Champion still has a fondness for wrestling. Will CM Punk ever return inside the ring without a mask?
